A few years ago, I started working a part-time job to earn some extra money to pay down my credit cards balances, and gain a financial footing, in order to pursue some other interests. I take most experiences as teachable moments in life. The part-time job was an experience I did not particularly like! I didn’t have a passion or interest in the job, I just wanted more money, but ended up dealing with a lot of stuff that most people dislike about jobs: low wages, late hours, back-biting employees, elusive boss (only see them when they are giving orders). I was glad to turn that page, and move on to the next chapter of my life.
Guess what? I now have 3 jobs! I have my primary job as a science teacher, a second job as the owner of Blooming Impressions, and a third job as the executive director of ELI – Emerging Lotus Inc, and I absolutely love all 3! Many people define an additional job to make supplemental income as a side hustle. I like to define my additional jobs as side businesses - there is structure, planning, collaboration, and most definitely passion. Yes, there are many days that I work late hours, but the late hours I have now do not make me feel tired, because they are fueled by the rush of adrenaline I get when I am working on the things I care the most about.
